What’s new to Méribel resort in 2016?
Méribel resort, a long-time favourite with those seeking ski holidays in France, has plenty to offer but with even more additions in the pipeline for 2016, visitors can’t go far wrong with a trip to this alpine destination.
This winter promises to provide an action-packed experience on the Alps, thanks to a few new developments.
Slope Side
It may not be the year of the dragon in 2016 but these fiery legends won’t be too far from the snow in Méribel this season. The new Altai Dragon trail is set to be a hit with young skiers, as they discover the hidden beast all along this mystical slope.
Once they’ve tracked the dragons down, families can relax with a picnic in the forest yurt before heading back up the slope to try out the new beginner-friendly slalom at the Altiport. Make the most of this competitive fun, accessible just below the Dent de Burgin chairlift when you take the Saulire Express 1.
If you’re looking for some after-hours entertainment, try night skiing at the dedicated nocturnal site Little Himalaya. Thursday evenings, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, visitors can make the most of this flood-lit area in Méribel-Mottaret to enjoy some winter sports under the stars.
Peak Performance
Stay connected on the slopes, as this season sees the introduction of free Wi-Fi hotspots around the ski area at key chairlift points. Share your holiday pics in real time and update your status on the piste so everyone working hard at the office knows what you’re up to, but step away from the inbox - work emails can wait! You can access the Wi-Fi from Toughnette and Altiport chairlifts, as well as at the top of the Saulire Express or the Moon Park hut.
Méribel Wi-Fi isn’t the only new media installation to winter 2015/16 – the Altiport parallel slalom will also provide the opportunity to capture your skiing escapades on camera. Challenge your friends and family and share the timed film through social media as proof.
Après Ski Additions
Off the slopes, Méribel’s town centre welcomes a few new eateries and venue updates to relax in post-ski. Elderflower Fizz, the only coffee shop in the resort to remain open all day, promises to cater to holidaymakers looking for a light lunch on the mountains. Open from 8am until 6pm, the café can also pack a delicious picnic for families to enjoy on the slopes.
Two well-established haunts, the bistro Le Refuge and après ski bar Le Poste de Secours have had a revamp for 2016. Le Refuge adds reasonably priced Italian flair to its already popular menu, partnering with Savoyard pizzeria. Le Poste has a packed gig guide of live music to entertain visitors throughout the season. With new options to try out, those staying in Méribel’s luxury catered chalets, won’t be able to resist stepping out for the evening.
The 2016 refresh doesn’t stop here, as Méribel has a number of additions coming in 2016 and with the recent introduction of new ski areas, activities and venues, those booking skiing holidays in the New Year are guaranteed plenty to do in the resort and the slopes around it.
