Some inspiring snow sports stories have surfaced in the last couple of days, and we want to share them with you. The resounding conclusion is that yes, these girls can.

First up, 13-year-old Millie Wilkinson has triumphed at The BRITS – Indoor Freeski Champs 2015, which was held at Manchester’s Chill Factore at the weekend. As her sponsor, we are so proud of her achievement – 1st place in the Women – Overall category.

Here is Millie on the podium:

British Olympic snowboarder Aimee Fuller has also been to the Chill Factore recently to encourage more females to try skiing and snowboarding. Speaking to Mancunian Matters, she said, “There are no boundaries or age limits just get out there and get involved.

“The girls that are out there riding want to find more girls to ride with so you can go to your local indoor or dry slope and I can guarantee that there will be a girl there looking for someone to shred with.”

Aimee debuted at Sochi 2014 and used her experience representing Great Britain to encourage anyone to really go for it: “We have such a great group of girls on tour, within the whole Olympic selection I think there were around 50 to 60 girls trying to qualify for the team so Britain is definitely not shy of females.

“The boys are really cool, we all ride the same courses, and they often help us get through the bigger courses on those days when it is a bit trickier.”

Gender in Snow Sports

2015 snow sport figures show that there are a greater amount of male skiers and snowboarders than female, although these figures are based on American participants. The greatest difference was with snowboarding: 61.5 per cent male, 38.4 per cent female. The smallest difference was with cross-country skiing: 53.5 per cent male, 46.5 per cent female.

Figures from the 2011/12 ski season in Europe show that 57 per cent of snow sport participants were male and 43 per cent female.

Whether you’re male or female, ski and snowboard holidays are amazing fun. Fun with friends and family, amazing scenery and a great workout can be enjoyed by all, and for the more experienced? Nothing beats the feeling of completing a trick, racing your way down the pistes and having a well-earned sit down and snack after an action-packed morning.
