New video game brings you right to the French Alps
For those of us who ski, we would love a few things: an endless supply of hi-tech equipment, nearby mountains full of manicured pistes, half-pipes and luxury gondolas, as well as piles of snow to let us make our skiing and snowboarding dreams come true.
Absent of a fairy godmother, a new video game being released at the end of the year will let us get our mountain-based thrills from the comfort of our lounge, and without all that pesky danger as well. Steep from Ubisoft will allow users to take part in the most extreme elements of the sport including freeride skiing, paragliding and even wingsuit flying through snow-covered mountain passes.
Take a look:
The game will be released for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
It will offer players the option to try off-piste snowboarding as well as freeride skiing. It also includes “speedriding” – a combination of freeride skiing and paragliding.
For those looking for the true feel of adrenaline, there is also wingsuit flying. In reality, the activity carries huge risk. According to enthusiasts, the average wingsuit flight may only last a minute or so, but they can reach speeds of 125mph in less than eight seconds.
The gameplay in Steep is focused on creating a real experience. Players assume the position of the athlete and there is an option that allows players to use a “GoPro” view – just like the famous YouTube videos of extreme skiers and snowboarders. The game also tracks and provides data including the number of vertical metres, the steepness of the pitch, and there is a competition for points when tricks are performed and when higher level of risks are taken.
For fans of Alpine skiing, players can chose from famous peaks including Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. If you are more interested in the real thing, the winter is coming and there are plenty of great opportunities to book a dream ski chalet in France to experience the adventure for yourself.
