New Funding Initiative to Transform UK Snowsports
Team GB has the 2018 Winter Olympics in their sight following a roaring success at the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio this summer. Luckily, two new funding initiatives have just been announced in a bid to revolutionise the world of UK snowsports as major companies set out to support the projects.
The British Snowsports Fund and the British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation are two pioneering enterprises aiming to bring additional funding to grassroots projects that support the budding talents in skiing and snowboarding in the UK. Spearheading the financial backing of the British team, these projects hope to support the medal aspirations of Team GB in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
Recreational skiers and snowboarders will be asked by the foundations to make a small donation when they purchase from a range of industry partners such as Ski Club of Great Britain, Esprit and AMS Rentals. The proceeds from this process will be put towards essential projects that promise to support everyone from new young skiers to those athletes hoping to qualify for the PyeongChang games.
Initiatives encouraging sports participation and much more are set to revolutionise the face of British skiing with the advent of these developments. The venture will also support skiers with the costs of competition travel, accommodation, coaching and equipment.
After winning their first ever Winter Olympic medal in 2014 at the Sochi games when Jenny Jones won bronze in the snowboard slopestyle, the world of UK snowsports has high hopes for the future.
Chairman of British Ski and Snowboard, Rory Tapner, explains, “The success of Team GB at Rio and in London has shown that Britain is a sporting superpower. Our aim is for our snowsport Olympians to replicate the success of their summer compatriots.”
So, whether you’re a seasoned skier looking to go pro in the near future, or a the parent of a young snow-lover about to embark upon your first ski holiday to France or beyond, these brand new developments are very good news!
