Moutiers to Bourg St Maurice train to reopen this month
The railway line between Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice is set to be opened at the end of the month, fantastic news which looks to enhance the travel options for those looking forward to their skiing getaways to France this winter.
While the rail line has served as an essential transport link to Bourg St Maurice – the village from which you can catch the funicular railway up to Les Arcs – it has been closed since April after a large amount of rocks came crashing down on both the railway track and the road. Although the debris on the road was cleared quickly, fixing the railway was a very different story.
Having left the line heavily damaged, replacement bus services were put into place to stop any disruption to those currently on their holidays and allow them to reach their destination as easily and quickly as possible.
Around €2million spent already on repairs
The falling rocks and debris have caused so much damage that around €2 million has already been spent in trying to repair the affected area. As well as the track itself being fixed, a series of metal nets will also be installed to avoid the same problem happening again in the future.
Staff have been working tirelessly to get the route back on track and it was originally thought that the line could have been reopened by the end of July. However after judging the full scale of the problem, the reopening date had to be pushed back further and it should reopen for business on 29 August.
Now that the line has been greatly improved, it means that visitors once again can use this efficient and scenic mode of transport to reach the world-famous slopes of Les Arcs on their skiing holidays.
Standing alongside ski trips in Meribel, La Plagne and other leading resorts in terms of popularity, Les Arcs is a key part of the Three Valleys network and offers fantastic skiing for all abilities.
