Méribel set to see big changes this winter season
Méribel has been undergoing some exciting changes over the summer, revving up its facilities ready for winter 2016-17. Passing on the usual large infrastructure projects, Méribel has chosen to focus on improving the comfort of skiers and providing more opportunities for families visiting for ski holidays in France at the resort.
WiFi on slopes
One of the major changes made in Méribel for this ski season is the expansion of WiFi coverage across the resort. Of course, ski chalets in Meribel are all well equipped with internet connections, but it is quickly becoming standard around the resort, as extended Wifi spots are rolled out across the ski area. Free Wifi hotspots can now be found at the summit of Plan des Mains chairlift, the DC AREA 43 chill zone, the end of the Yooni slalom in the Yeti Park, in the new Mottaret centre Piknic’n Relax room, at the top of Rhodos gondola lift and the top of the Plan de l’Homme chairlift. So your next Instagram ski shot is never far away!
Safer beginner slopes
Safety is key, as any seasoned skier knows. In order to make Méribel a more enjoyable destination for families with children of all ages, two of Méribel’s green slopes have been re-designed to make them easier for young beginners. Escargot slope in the Tougnete area offers a green route only for beginners and an easy slope for all other amateurs, whereas Blanchor piste has had a path added for an easier descent.
Outdoor and indoor relaxation areas
Skiing can be tough work, and as exciting as it is to hit the slopes, everyone needs a little time to recuperate between runs. Two brand new relaxation areas have been created to allow skiers some downtime. Mottaret has created an indoor picnic room to get out of the cold, with comfy sofas, a kitchen area, WiFi and chargers. There are also more outdoor relaxation areas with foam mattresses and benches. As Merinet reports, one of the most popular of these has been tested last season – the Altai Dragon. Here, families love to chill out on the hammocks and enjoy the breath-taking views.
Terrain parks
It’s not just new skiers who are being specially catered to in Méribel this winter. The Moon Park has been transformed into the Elements Park, a new and improved terrain park dedicated purely to freestylers. From novices to professionals, freestyle skiers will love the boardercross, whoops and Fun Cross and practice new tricks on the soft impact boxes, rails and jibs. Mottaret’s DC Area 43 terrain park has also been given a new boardercross piste with regular contests and fun events.
Night sledding
Whether you’re planning the perfect Christmas activity or simply want to check something off your bucket list, Méribel and Mottaret’s new night sledding events are perfect. Their new ‘Himalaya by Night’ sledding evenings will be occurring every Tuesday, and will allow guests to eat some delicious marshmallows and hot chocolate and glide down the lit up slopes for what promises to be a truly magical experience.
More activities for kids
For the young at heart among us – and for children themselves – Méribel has added even more excitement ready for the winter season. Mottaret’s Yeti Park has been extended, with not only a freestyle area with trumpets and tunnels, but now also a zip-wire, toboggans and igloos to explore.
Free Christmas liftpass
This Christmas season, Ski Olympic are offering a select few people an amazing opportunity to get free liftpasses with their Méribel chalet. Depart on either the 13th December or the 20th of December and every guest will receive a free liftpass.
