French resorts open after stellar snowfall

A sudden snowstorm has extended the ski season with ski resorts opening early and this will have a positive impact for all ski holidays in France.

The last few years have been a disappointing start to the ski season, with many December holidays being met with a disappointing scattering of snow.

According to an article on the Telegraph website , this year seems to be bucking the trend, with early snowfall blanketing the Alps, causing lots of renowned ski resorts to open early and offer pre-season skiing.

Courchevel had its annual free weekend on 11th November and the weather obliged with a snowstorm, easing us all in to the trials the winter months hold. This two-day teaser has left us all eagerly anticipating the official opening on the 10th of December.

Other resorts at the opposite end of the valley are excited to open weeks ahead of schedule, which is getting the snow sport season off to a roaring start as we enter into the festive spirit.

Courchevel and other Les Trois Vallee resorts announce events calendars

The entirety of Les Trois Vallee seems determined to celebrate this winter with the most varied and inclusive events. From an Ice driving event at the far side of the Valleys in Val Thorens, an action packed calendar tracks its way through the different resorts.

Courchevel seems particularly keen to entertain with sports activities covering the Ladies Alpine World Cup for Giant Slalom in December, the Trois Vallees Enduro in April and Dynastar X3 Mountain Triathlon in Mid- April.

There are cultural exhibitions beyond the expected Apres-ski bars and clubs. The Urban Street Art Festival in the Mountain is returning to that end of the valley with big name artists working alongside those recognised for a more street and graffiti style.

The Russian Christmas is set to lift those January blues as a week of partying is blended with a traditional Russian Orthodox Christmas and a choir in folk dress.

It looks set to be a bumper season for all ski holidays and breaks in France as resorts attempt to make this winter more magical than the last.
