Could ‘Skootball’ be the latest extreme sport?
A brand new extreme sport has emerged on the slopes of Europe, one which you could see during your ski getaways in Meribel next season. If you’ve always been a fan of skiing and football, but can never quite decide between the two, here’s the perfect sport you’ve been after!
The sport in question is ski football, and despite the two sports being undoubtedly different, it’s proved a real hit on the slopes of Scandinavia. In an incredible video which has been produced for thisisfootball.com, it shows two teams of people descending the pistes while keeping in control of a football. While many struggle to get to the bottom of the slope without falling over, these experts skiers are able to dribble, pass and head the ball as they make their way towards the goal.
Bringing incredible football to the slopes
Filmed on the terrain park in the Norwegian resort of Gello, the extraordinary footage – which can be seen below – shows skiers passing and dribbling with the ball before aiming to put it in the back of the net. Some also incorporate backflips, frontflips and spins into the act, with one aiming to score an incredible diving header while pulling off a frontflip – although the resulting header isn’t on target!
Whether it’s called skiball, skifootball or even skootball, it’s likely that this could be the latest craze to take to the slopes of ski resorts across the world from next year. As the main requirements are a decent descent and a goal at the bottom, the fine pistes of Meribel could certainly host such an activity next season, although maybe on a smaller scale.
If you are looking forward to taking to the slopes during your skiing holidays in France or other European hotspots next year, it could be worth packing a football and a pump in your suitcase just in case!
