Coeur Blanc challenges skiers in Méribel
Winter sports enthusiasts prepare to tackle all 52 lifts in Méribel on their ski holiday in France in a single day and it’s all for a good cause!
The countdown has begun for those staying in ski chalets in Méribel, as the popular resort prepares to host the fundraising Coeur Blanc Challenge on the 12th of March.
For the fifth year running, the charitable event will see 20 teams take to Méribel’s ski lifts, riding all 52 and covering an area of around 95km on the pistes in just one day. The teams, each with between four and six members, will chart their own route to complete the challenge and will have skied descents estimated to be around 15,000 metres in total.
Coeur Blanc is a fun challenge for confident skiers, snowboarders and the like, but its real aim is to raise funds for a different worthy cause each year. 2016’s dedicated charity is Snow Camp, an organisation that helps young people gain confidence and self-esteem through alpine activities.
The charity has helped over 5,000 people living in London already, and founder and director, Dan Charlish, explains that the mountainous marathon’s proceeds will help them to establish similar programmes in three more UK cities. He said: “The support of the Coeur Blanc has come at the perfect time in our development, as we launch a new campaign to expand.”
Each team must raise a minimum of £6,000 for the chosen beneficiary and over the past three events, teams have been successful in raising more than £750,000 for charities including SkillForce and research projects committed to leukaemia and melanoma.
This year is set to be another success for the resort’s fundraising event, with skiers gearing up to take on Méribel’s lifts in the largest ski area in the world – the Three Valleys. With just under two weeks to go until Coeur Blanc, there’s no time like the present to don your salopettes and get practicing ahead of Méribel’s marathon.
